Cubeia Ltd, a technology solutions provider for the online gambling and gaming industry, have announced the ground-breaking release of Firebase Community Edition - a scalable, enterprise server for multiplayer games. Firebase Community Edition is the first ever open-source game server in the online gambling industry.

Firebase is a game server designed to run on anything from a single laptop to large enterprise clusters. It will be dual-licensed, one version for the development community under an open source license, and one version with enterprise features under a proprietary license.
By releasing an open source version of Firebase, Cubeia are transforming the marketplace. The lead-time for getting started on a new platform is down to zero. There's a community to support the platform and for the first time, a gambling multiplayer platform is open sourced, making the future of the online gaming industry truly exciting.
The Firebase platform already powers leading skill gaming networks Jadestone DiceArena network and the MahjongLogic network. In the near future Cubeia will look to provide Firebase to entrepreneurs and start-ups, as well as established online game studios.

This is truly an interesting development. Open source applications tend to be where cutting edge technology get developed, due to widespread access to source codes, etc. and the fact that literally anyone can contribute.
