The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Alcohol and Gaming Enforcement Division recently put an end to its campaign to force ISPs to BLOCK (read CENSOR) online gaming sites, in order to prevent Minnesota residents from accessing them.

The decision to drop the campaign was part of a settlement agreement made with iMEGA -- the Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association. In return, iMEGA dropped a civil suit against the Department of Public Safety which alleged that the black listing of websites was not authorized under 18 U.S.C. 1084 and violated the First Amendment and the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

Minnesota State Representative Pat Garofalo, who had himself introduced legislation to stop the Department of Public Safety from their course of censorship stated "This is a great day for internet freedom... In the spirit of cooperation and in recognition of the rescission of these notices (of requirements to blacklist websites), I am more than happy to withdraw my bill and in its place sponsor a discussion aimed at establishing a framework for regulating and licensing the online gaming industry."
